Walnuts Lower Cholesterol and Support Blood Vessels
The British Medical Journal’s Open Diabetes Research and Care published a study in November revealing that eating just a handful of walnuts each day significantly improves the quality of dietary intake of nutrients (measured by the Healthy Eating Index). Specifically, the nuts also reduce bad cholesterol (LDL), improve total cholesterol (ratio of LDL to HDL) and improve endothelial function (the cells lining blood vessels). Considering the long list of unwanted side effects from statins (prescription drugs used to control cholesterol levels), adding a handful of nuts to your daily diet seems like a simple natural solution. Walnuts have also been proven to aid memory, improve brain health and are even being studied for their role in cancer prevention.
