National Sports Day 2016: Where to Go?
Get your sporting gears and put on your sneakers! The time of the year has come once more where Qatar’s residents will be out and about, being active and indulging in various sports. Established in 2011 as a national holiday by Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani , Qatar National Sports Day which annually falls on the second Tuesday of February, was created to encourage Qatar’s citizens to be more active.
This year, NSD falls on the 9th of February and like the previous years, many selections of activities are available for Qatar’s residents to partake in.
Here are the list of places you can go tomorrow:
Doha Dash, launched by Dolphin Energy, will return for its third year on Tuesday. The community fun run will take place in Lusail International Circuit, aiming to encourage citizens and residents of Qatar to live active lives. This year, there will be a selection of races to cater to everyone’s abilities.
The various races include:
-10 KM Doha Dash – open to ages 14 and above
-5 KM Doha Dash – open to ages 12 and above
-3KM Doha Dash – open to ages eight and above, suitable for families who wants a sample of mass races but doesn’t want to push themselves too hard
-1KM Mini Doha Dash – open for children aged five to 12
-1KM Ladies Walk – open for everyone, particularly for ladies who wants to participate but doesn’t want to run

Ooredoo is hosting a whole day packed with sporting activity in Museum of Islamic Arts (MIA) Park. Activities will run the whole day, starting from 8.30 am and ends at 5 pm. This year, Ooredoo emphasises their focus on strength and fitness. Their event will provide a range of classes from circuit training to martial arts classes such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and kickboxing, which are available for residents of all ages. Qatar Foundation will be hosting a series of activities in celebration of Sports Day ranging from walkathon to various sporting tournaments, available for the public. For the complete range of schedule, click here.
This year, Aspire will be a zone of sporting hub. A range of activities will be available for the public starting from 8 am until 3 pm on Tuesday. Activities include Fun Run, football tournaments, basketball, wall climbing and many more! Click here to see the entire array of activities taking place tomorrow.

Qatar Olympic Committee
Many Sports Day activities taking place in Qatar this year are organized by Qatar Olympics Committee. To view their complete list of events, click here.
Additionally, Qatar Tourism Authority have partnered with around 47 hotels around Doha on Sports Day for #QatarinMotion initiative. On this day, these select hotels will give out complimentary access to their gyms and fitness classes, discounted room rates and gym memberships along with healthy brunches.
